Out of Service is a project featuring individuals traveling the NYC subway. It explores themes of love, solitude, and embracing the present. This body of work highlights the stories of New Yorkers, especially black and brown folks. Using public transportation leaves you vulnerable. Passengers are all exposed to each other with nowhere to run or hide. That being said, this vulnerability is how my subjects and I establish a connection. Most of these photos were taken before and after my time working late nights as a bartender in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, commuting to and from home in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn.
